The Seminole County Health Department
invites you to get FLU Shots at the Health Department offices located at
400 West Airport Boulevard in Sanford or at 132 Sausalito Boulevard in
Casselberry during the month of October for residents over the age of 65
between 8:00 Am and 4:00 PM. Pneumonia vaccine is recommended for
seniors 65 and older.
In November, December and after, health care providers, adults and
children with chronic diseases, babies age 6-23 months, and adults who
have health concerns. Please contact 407 665-3281 for
additional information.
Cost is
$15.00 per shot for flu

outdoors, this is an event for you! Heart of Florida United Way's
Volunteer Central Florida is seeking volunteers to help for a minimum of
one day during the Buick Scramble National Championships, which will take
place from October 8 to 12.
Volunteers are needed
to accompany a competing foursome and keep score

A Difference Day takes place on
October 25th and is the largest national day of helping others.
Seminole Community Volunteer Program is partnering with The Salvation Army
to organize a food drive to help our neighbors this holiday season.
Pictures below show the nearly empty food pantry at The Salvation Army in
Sanford. Similar scenes are taking place throughout the county. Help
us fill the shelves with food. The Salvation Army, as well as other
agencies provide Thanksgiving dinner items for families in need. See
the list of Thanksgiving trimming items needed. If you wish to help
please call us for further information and to arrange a pick up.

Homeland Security Disaster Preparedness
Operation Step Up is a program of Volunteer Florida, in partnership with
the Florida Association of Volunteer Centers and made possible by a grant
from the Corporation for National and Community Service. Volunteer centers
and emergency response agencies around the state are engaging Floridians
in Operation Step Up homeland security and disaster preparedness programs.
SCVP has been awarded three new Homeland Security / Disaster Preparedness
grants through Operation Step Up for the second year of the program. This
year’s programs will include Amateur Radio, Community Health and Business
Continuity. These components will allow us to partner with new agencies to
assist the community become better prepared for emergencies and disasters.
Amateur Radio will develop partnerships with local amateur radio clubs to
recruit and train new generations of radio operators critically needed to
support emergency communications throughout Florida.
Community Health will promote health-related homeland security initiatives
through partnerships between volunteer centers and health care facilities.
Retired health care professionals and students in a variety of health care
training programs will team up to meet locally identified needs.
Business Continuity will develop the capacity of Florida’s small
businesses to be disaster resistant and resilient. This train-the-trainer
will prepare volunteers from dozens of local organizations to teach and
mentor local businesses to withstand the physical and economic impacts of
disasters.
