Senior Care seniors are provided with field trips and transportation services for daily living needs, such as grocery shopping. *Come join the Regional Mass Care Response Team! The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago in partnership with RSVP of Hull House/Chicago continues to recruit RSVP volunteers to assist with local mass care disaster response activities. The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago and RSVP of Hull House/Chicago have formed a local Mass Care Team to meet the basic disaster-caused needs of multiple families and communities affected by disaster by providing services such as shelter, food and bulk distribution of supplies, helping identify and survey buildings to be used as potential Red Cross shelters, and assist with securing vendor agreements. Volunteers will be trained to provide ongoing and/or emergency services. Extensive training provided. *Tell your story! Yes, you do have a story. You have a unique story to tell. Fortunately, other folks have a need to hear it. Largely absent from our culture are the stories of the elders. Sometimes older people are asked to read stories to little kids. But, when are you asked to tell YOUR stories? You have a lifetime of experiences. Well, RSVP of Hull House/Chicago is asking. RSVP of Hull House/Chicago is setting up storytelling opportunities throughout Chicago at Chicago Public Schools, faith-based organizations, and private schools. Trained RSVP staff and volunteers will gather information about seniors and lead discussions relevant to the current course curriculum in the classroom. What were volunteers doing during....the great depression, the end of World War II, the day Kennedy was shot, what life was like before we had indoor plumbing, or a phone....Children will then have the chance to write down what they remember of the seniors' experiences. Interested volunteers can be set up at the schools for ongoing tutoring/mentoring opportunities. |
