AmeriCorps members are able to reach children and families in numerous capacities. Members serve the local school systems through tutoring and mentoring programs. This includes strong emphasis on life skills including anger and conflict management, healthy and safe lifestyles, and future goal orientation, including school attendance, performance, and plans for a productive future. Only with small ratios of adults to youth is it possible to offer quality programming based on strong relationships of caring adults; designed to build youth with good decision-making capabilities; who perform better in school, and with parents and peers; who are then more likely to realize more positive outcomes.
